ITRP University

Do you want to learn more about Wyoming Valley history in 20 minutes than most residents learn in a lifetime? At ITRP University you can attend 3 semesters, take your final exam, get your diploma and be off to the graduation party in under 30 minutes…. for the low, low price of $29.99!

Passing students are eligible to win prizes from a random drawing at the graduation party, those with higher grades have a better chance to win. We will have live music from Proud Monkey and food from Café Toscana.

Learn about the history of the Haudenosaunee 6 Nations from lacrosse legend Gewas Schindler who is part Seneca, Onondaga, Oneida and Mohawk.. Tony Brooks and Clark Switzer, two legendary NEPA historians, will then guide you from the founding of Wilkes-Barre through the aftermath of the American Revolution.

You can mingle with the ITRP team at the graduation party and discuss ideas for a “PHD project” that involves creating content for the NEPA Heritage Center, which will provide support/resources to qualifying projects. We plan to launch the Irem Heritage Center 2025 and want it to be a world class venue at the grand opening. The hard work needs to start now.

Scholarships are available to those at the high school or college level who:

Teach history, anthropology, archaeology, media or any other applicable courses

School Administrators and Board Members

Board Member or Employee of any Local Historical Society or Museum

Students interested in internship opportunities.

In all seriousness, no this is not a “University”. We thought this would be a good way to grab your attention around this fun trivia-style event. The core purpose of this event (besides the fun) is to start the community collaboration required to create a world-class museum in the Irem Temple Building called the NEPA Heritage Center (NHC)

The staff of the NHC will lead the effort to continuously build a world-class digital learning experience focused on regional history. We have partnered with Wilkes-Barre based VizVibe to design variety of digital learning experiences and create standards, methods and protocols that will enable us create content with local colleges, high schools, historical societies, Haudenosaunee organizations and other heritage sites.

Participating students and faculty will get the opportunity to do groundbreaking research and have their worked catalogued and accessible, forever in the museum. Students at the high school level will learn valuable job-skills while students at the college level guide them as hone their craft.

These projects will serve as the foundation of an “open-source” museum that will highlight all the amazing heritage sites throughout all of Northeastern PA, not just “NEPA” or “the valley”. It will also be a vehicle for any member of the public to fund, research, develop and vet projects that meet the highest academic standards.
